Yercaud is a small hill station located in Tamil Nadu, and a road trip from the urban landscapes of Chennai to the picturesque landscape of Yercaud and the places that fall in between will definitely make you to go crazy. Get ready to escape from the urban life to expereince the thrilling view of Yercaud.

A Bike Ride from Chennai to Yercaud :-

Extending from October to February, the winter season and is also a best time to visit Yercaud. The temperature ranges between 13ยฐC to 25ยฐC. Yercaud experiences monsoon in the months between July and mid-September and the region experiences a medium to low rainfall of 1500 to 2000 mm during this time.

The temperature ranges from 16-30 degrees and thus, is a pleasant weather for a perfect romance with nature. When the monsoon subsides, autumn has a wonderful, lovely beginning but carry your jackets along as the nights can get cold.

The distance between Chennai to Yercaud is roughly around 350-395 kilometres, depending on the route of travel. Route can be accessible through the following routes.

Route 1: Chennai CMBT – Tindivanam – Salem – Yercaud

Route 2 : Chennai CMBT – Krishnagiri – Salem – Yercaud

The route via Krishnagiri is preferred as it gives the maximum opportunity for sightseeing and is a comfortable journey if you are riding a bike. The four-lane road makes it a smooth ride along the Eastern Ghats. On hitting the NH, make sure to fuel yourself with a good South Indian meal as there are a lot of local eateries along the highway. Krishnagiri is the next stop you will avail, which is about 250 km away and then comes Dharmapuri, which can be a preferred stop. From Dharmapuri, the road is headed towards Salem, which is just about 30 km from Yercaud.

Start as early as possible, around 5 AM helps you to avoid city traffic and as well as humidity which rise after 10 AM which will be hard for driving. So its better to kick start as early as good. ย The roads are good enough to ride your bike & will be an advantage to reach your destination on time as per planning. Hill roads are really amazing it’s a fun to drive. Always take slow turns and never over take in hills is good and safe.ย 

Dharmapuri is a silent place in nature secluded from its busy surroundings. The gorgeous Hogenakkal Falls is a must-visit here to get a glimpse of the majestic roaring and thunderous falls on the Kaveri river. It is a historical destination as it was the first district to be created in Tamil Nadu after Independence. Chenaraya Perumal Temple, located 7 km from your halt, is a magnificent example of Hoysala architecture dedicated to Lord Vishnu.

About 30 km from Salem lies your final destination through the curvy mountain roads and damp, cool air. Yercaud rests silently surrounded by silver oaks and pepper vines and goes by the local name Yer-Cadu.

Things to do

Sightseeing in Yercaud begins with its coffee and orange plantations. This place is prominent with groves of pears, jackfruits and pepper adding a sweet-spicy touch. Trekking along the hills introduces tourists to natureโ€™s bounty along with enjoying an occasional sight of a bison, fox, mongoose, and squirrel. Yercaud Lake tops the list of picnic spots with pristine water bodies surrounded by green pastures. The Anna Park is another destination recognized for its annual flower exhibition held in the month of May.
